May Arts Nautical Craft Challenge

I threw my hat in over at May Arts for the June craft challenge and I was lucky enough to have been selected.  I am super excited and really honored to be amongst all of the ladies, 20 of them, selected this month.
Here are the beautiful ribbons we had to select from, you could pick up to 4.
ribbon collage My project is a printers tray.  I have been collecting photos, shells and sand from one of my absolute favorite beaches in Malibu where my dearest friend has a house.   Our time spent there is always special and I wanted to make him a gift as a remembrance of all the amazing times we have had there.
These are the ribbons I chose: Burlap Cord SP10; Solid with Diagonal Stripes 424-18-03;  Metallic Chain Cord 348-14-30;  Woven Chevron Stripes 443-58-01
I unraveled the burlap cord and knotted my own little fishing net, I was really shocked at how easily it came together.  The other ribbons speak for themselves!!  I also used a few pieces from an Um Wow Studio embellishment kit, Beach Combing and layered chip banners.

Button Fairies

VLVS! host some super fun swaps and I am always excited to participate.  This last one was a little intimidating for me because I had never seen a button fairy let alone made one.  After some searching on the internet and some thought I finally came up with an idea to cast heads out of paper clay.  It seems that was the easy part…it took several tries to get to a design I liked.
I used two VLVS! images, spotted butterfly and corset.  I stamped 2 layers of butterfly wings on acetate.  One is black ink stained with different colors of alcohol ink and the other is embossing ink with clear sparkly embossing powder.  The corset is stamped with clear embossing ink on black cardstock and covered with white Zing embossing powder.  The ruffle is May Arts ribbon.  Buttons are from my collection.
Fairy closeI will be sharing the fairy I get in exchange soon so stop back soon!!

Paper Piecing

I have never really paper pieced, can you believe it?!? Well… I was inspired by my crafty friends Laura and Lanette, they did the CUTEST projects and I had to HAVE this prima doll stamp!!!
I used a bunch of my favorite things!!
Prima Mixed Media Doll Stamp, UmWow Studio Star confetti, VLVS! Brick Background, Gauche Alchemy washi, May Arts Ribbon (silk, jute, velvet and mesh), Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Distress Stain, Distress Ink, MME brad, gems, Copics, Authentique paper, button.
Now that I have this tag under my belt the ideas are swarming in my mind!!!  Oh all the ways to use this stamp, paper piece and embellish!!!  Stayed tuned.

A couple of weeks ago I took a class at Great Lakes Mega Meet that was sponsored by GlobeCraft.  It was taught by Linda Neff, I was very glad to have met her and went over to the GlobeCraft booth where I purchase a BUNCH of stuff.  One of the things I picked up was these awesome bubble ornaments and I couldn’t wait to get BUZZy with my first project.
I have been obsessed with the small bee stamp from VLVS!, you will notice it on several of my projects lately.   I stamped these little guys with archival ink, used my embossing pen and gold embossing powder, fussy cut them and gave them a coat of Glastique from Piccolo.
Another fabulous product I am obsessed with is UmWow Studio chipboard.  For this ornament I used the hexagon background trimmed to fit and coated is Distress stickles.  I attached a couple of my little bees, on both sides, added a piece of May Arts twill/chevron stripes (another fabulous product I am obsessed with) with an MME brad.
I used my Spellbinders bitty blossoms die to cut a couple of flowers from some MME paper, one went inside and one out.  I used the six hexagon border from VLVS! (LOVE) on the outside border of my ornament using embossing ink and gold embossing powder.
I also used some May Arts velvet ribbon for the ornament hanger.  I am super excited with how this little ‘hive’ worked out.  I hope you like it too!

Cocoa Creations - #3 -What's Cookin'?

This weeks challenge over at Crop Chocolate is from Kathy:

Here is it the end of May and the beginning of summer vacation . . . and if you are like me, you are looking for new things/recipes to try. With that in mind, I thought this week's challenge would be a recipe of sorts reflecting one of my favorite recipes - Raspberry Dessert. Here's what I want you to do . . . create a layout, card, altered art, etc. using the following "ingredients" along with anything else you want to throw in.   Chipboard (the crust for the dessert) Something white and fluffy (the Dream Whip) Something red (the raspberries) 3 bling (the number of steps to make Raspberry Dessert) I will be providing a prize of your choice between a $20 gift certificate to UmWowStudio or some yummy scrappy supplies worth $20+. So let's get cooking and see what delicious projects we can cook up.

Here is what I came up with…
Chipboard-UmWow Studio layered stars and star confetti, White and fluffy-Hug Snug bow, Red and Bling-Scrappin Supplies gems. I also used Carta Bella Kraft and Bazzil cardstock, Mister Huey opaque white mist, VLVS! make a wish stamp, Zing embossing powder.
I absolutely LOVE the itty bitty stars in this confetti!!  I really think you can’t live without it!!
This challenge was fun, I will admit I was a little intimidated by it at first but once I got to thinkin’…it all came together perfectly!!  I hope you will give the challenge a shot!!  It is a great prize up for grabs!!!
