Merry Christmas!!

To all my followers, friends, fellow crafters and family...at this time of year we always reflect on what has past and look ahead to the future but in this very moment I would like to express my gratitude for your support, kind words and general awesomeness!

I also wanted to share the ornament I am making my co-workers, nieces teachers and some of my family this year.

You might have guessed I am OBSESSED with sisal trees and these were super fun to make!!

Some vintage tinsel and beautiful velvet ribbon and viola!!
I also did some of these bell jars too!

These have a great May Arts ribbon to top them off.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and may you find every happiness in 2015!  See you next year!!

Holiday Tradition

Over at SWAT we have a couple of challenges going on until the end of the month.
Are you making your Christmas cards???  One of my traditions is to make my own Christmas cards.  I have been doing it since I was in high school, and that was quite a while ago.
This year my friend and owner/creative mastermind at Um Wow Studio designed a special chipboard piece for me to use on my cards...

I am OBESSED with sisal trees and this one is SUPERB.  I also used one of my favorite Viva Las VegaStamps! Christmas sentiments, Santa Claus is coming to town, May Arts burlap string, Basic Grey paper, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Tim Holtz die, Faber Castell glitter and bead paste, Distress Paint and archival ink.

We at SWAT want to know if you took some time for yourself away from all of the hustle and bustle...if you did make sure you get linked up!!

May Arts Ribbony Christmas Card Challenge

By now you know I am a big fan of May Arts ribbon and I am lucky to have been selected for the lasted challenge...

It was a bit different this time, we got one yard of each of the pictured colors of the 1/2 inch crinkle ribbon to create our card.
Xmas ribbon

I decided to create a gift set of cards all with ribbon Christmas trees.

My card bases are Authentique Believe and Bazzill Basics.  All the holiday sentiments are Viva Las VegaStamps!.

I also used archival ink, Um Wow Studio layered star with gold embossing powder, Tim Holtz mirrored star, cinnamon stick and vintage buttons.

The decorative folder holds the cards and envelopes, it closes with more of the 1/2" crinkle ribbon.

I absolutely love using May Arts ribbon on all of my projects but especially cards!!  I hope you enjoyed this project.  You can head over to the May Arts blog to vote and win some ribbon of your own.

Twinkle-Mixed Media Tag

The inspiration board and Viva Las VegaStamp! for November screams mixed media to me, how about you??  AND I just got some fun new mixed media layering stamps to play with!

I took my inspiration from the teal, white and numbers...oh yeah and the splatters and layers!!

I used a bunch of stamps from plate 1455, you have to check out all the layering goodness on this plate!!  It is hard to see some of the stamped layer, I used gesso for texture.  I also use the grunge 2 and grunge 5 with one of my fave sentiments, bring on the twinkle.
From Um Wow Studio I used snowflake confetti and flair from the dream a little dream set.  ALso used Pink Paislee paper, gesso, gelatos, archival ink, distress ink, sequins, May Arts tulle and burlap string and Prima crystals.

Are you inspired???  Then get over to VLVS! and link up a work of art!!

Holly Christmas

The Tim Holtz blueprint stamps are one of my favorites to use with distress markers and my water pen.  The new winter set has some of my favorite winter images!!

The card base is Authentique Believe.  I stamped on Tim Holtz watercolor paper in archival ink adn used my distress markers and stickles to color the image.  Crinkle ribbon colored with distress stain and a metal TH hang tag with TH numbers and a star.  The sentiment is also TH.

Watch the calendar at Scrappy Chic, this card will be offered as a class very soon!!

The new Carta Bella Warm & Cozy Blizzard was perfect for a photo I have been wanted to scrap from last winter.  I had this in my November kit for Scrappy Chic.

I have heavy gesso and coffee creating the background for my photo.  I punched some snowflakes, tore the title out from a piece of the paper, created the circle with May Arts burlap string, put down some Prima bark stars and UmWow Studio snowflake confetti.  Finished with some doodling and a couple enamel dots.

I love the circles the string creates!!

Designed for Scrappy Chic with a Prima metal frame and Pink Paislee Merry & Bright this Christmas decor uses a bunch of Tim Holtz pieces too.

I sprayed the TH bottle brush tree and wreath using reinker and water.  I put some heavy gesso on the tree for flocking.  The prining block letters, also TH, were sanded and dabbed with distress paint and stain.  I used the UmWow Studio star confetti mask with gel medium and then brushed pewter distress stain and water dripped down for the background.  The TH stars and santa and reindeer (cut with my (Cameo) complete the scene.  The burlap string and tulle are both May Arts.

The tulle ties into the background perfectly.

Distressing the printer block letters and coloring adds so much character.

And of course I am OBSESSED with these bottle brush (or sisal) trees!

This was so much fun!!!  I see another one in my future.  :)

Art Journal Swap 4 of 10

If you have visited before you might have seen some of the posts about a round robin journal swap I am participating in with some lovely ladies.  Today I would like to share journal number 4.  The theme was to share what is in your soul...

As always I started with a layer of gesso and these pages have bunches of mixed mediums like Faber Castell Aquarelle pencils and gelatos, heavy gesso, Tattered Angels glimmer mist, charcoal pencil and archival ink.  I used a couple VLVS! background stamps; writing and harlequin and Um Wow Studio swallow chip.  There is also cheese cloth, thread and sequins.

This might just be one of my favorite pages so far...  :)  I am having so much fun learning so many mixed media techniques and love when I get to use them!!

Can't wait to get the next journal!!

May Arts:  Chevron twill
Tim Holtz:  Distress glitter

Winter Traditions

Lately, I have been creating lots of shaker cards.  They are fun and the ideas keep swimming around in my head.  This one is winter themed and I am hoping to teach a class at Scrappy Chic the beginning of November...  :)

The paper is Authentique Cozy on a Bazzil card base.  I cut the snowflake with my Cameo.  Tim Holtz Carolers and Tag and Bookplate dies, chit chat words, skate charm, Distress ink Gathered Twigs, Martha Stewart snowflake punch, May Arts burlap string, Studio Calico and Pretty Pink Posh sequins and Prima glass glitter are all used too,

I tossed in some seed beads to help move around the sequins.

I am addicted to these book plates!!

If you are interested in the class watch the calendar at Scrappy Chic to see when it will be scheduled.

Art Journaling

I want to make an art journal by binding pages myself and using a vintage book cover but I just can't decide how I want to bind the pages...SO until I figure that out I thought I would start some pages, you know, work from the inside out.

DeeDee Catron posted a fantastic technique using watercolor pencils and a stencil, you can see it here.  I just love it and have been practicing....

When I started this spread I had a totally different idea in mind.  Isn't it funny how once you start putting your idea on paper it can make a complete 180??!?

I started with mixed media paper and added some gesso.  I also used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Distress stain and markers, Faber Castell Aquarelle pencils, Prima stencil, mat gel, VLVS! whimsical diver and adventure awaits, Um Wow Studio layered circles, sequins and floral beads.

Cool right??  I am happy with how it worked out and I love the brightness of the blue!!
This journal spread is also going to be my entry over at Words & Paintery.  The October challenge, their first (!), is up and the new creative teams is sharing some AWESOME inspiration!!  Please make sure you check it out!!

The Cow Jumped Over the Moon

I have had an idea for a card rolling around in my head for a couple of weeks now so today I finally got to work pulling it all together.

All paper is from my scrap bin...I used the star confetti stencil, milk cow and alpha one from UmWow Studio, Tim Holtz moon and stars die, gesso, distress ink, distress paint and gelatos.

This will be so cute for a baby card!!

Open til the end of the month!!
